The Bed and Breakfast Experience

By C.Haggerty

Breakfast Like Home!
A bed and breakfast is a small accommodation establishment and offers overnight accommodations & a breakfast, (most b&b's do not offer other meals than breakfast).  Bed and breakfasts are generally private residences with any number of bedrooms able to be rented out in a commercial basis depending on the size of the home.

The bed and breakfast experience always try's to maintain the historical relevance to the home typically with furniture replicating the era of the home.  You will find it more of a social experience when you are staying at a bed and breakfast.  In most accommodation experiences, be it motels or large hotels, generally you don't tend to mingle with other hotel guests on a personal basis in the restaurants or in the evenings unless you are at a resort style accommodation and are not meant to leave the hotel.

Bed & Breakfast Vancouver
Most hotel guests will enjoy the restaurants at their own table with their party, and retire to their rooms in the evening after exploring the city they are visiting.  At a bed and breakfast, you can do the same but often times you are welcomed by the host and other guest during breakfast.  This is an experience of meeting wonderful people from out of town, and getting to know the other houseguests.

In the evenings at some bed and breakfasts, well the ones I have had the pleasure to stay in, offer their guests a chance to stay up in the common areas and enjoy a glass of wine, or in one b&b in San Francisco that I stayed in invited us to another establishment that they owned and we sat on the roof and watched the sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge.

History and Charm
Depending on the type of travel you are looking for, I find that the bed and breakfast experience to be one of magic, from staying in a historical home in Vancouver or a Row Home in San Francisco.  The hosts make you feel like you are at home even if you are miles away.  I would highly recommend trying a bed and breakfast at least once along your many travels!
